BBDC and UNIVERSITY HEALTH NETWORK RENEW PARTNERSHIP FOCUSED ON DIABETES RESEARCH

September 2012

We are delighted to announce a renewed partnership between the BBDC and the University Health Network (UHN).  The five-year renewed commitment will enable experts from diverse backgrounds from both organizations to continue to work together on cutting-edge prevention and treatment strategies for people with diabetes.

This collaboration significantly enhances our ability to achieve global impact in the areas of diabetes research, education and clinical care.  By bringing people together – across our health network and from a variety of backgrounds – we’re better able to develop new treatment paths to cure diabetes and prevent its complications, while figuring out new ways to improve the lives of people already living with diabetes.

The BBDC and Toronto General Hospital (one of four member hospitals in UHN) have had a long association, with the most recent five-year partnership agreement signed in 2007. Through this renewed five-year partnership, the UHN will continue to provide much needed support for postdoctoral fellowships and graduate studentships, thereby enabling the BBDC to continue to fund a larger number of diabetes research activities.  Continued support will also be provided for BBDC educational activities such as the Annual Scientific Day and Seminar Series at City-wide Endocrine Rounds.  The BBDC administrative offices will continue to be housed on the 12th floor of the Eaton Building of the Toronto General Hospital.

The BBDC director will continue to advance the academic mission of the BBDC by working with the Faculty of Medicine Office of Advancement and partner Hospital Foundation (Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation) to raise funds for diabetes research, education and care. The BBDC brings a world renowned brand and diabetes research and educational expertise to the UHN, thereby contributing to the UHN vision to achieve global impact.
