Archie Sopman Diabetes Research and Education Awards 2010

Eligibility Requirements: |
Any University Health Network (UHN) staff physician, dietitian, nurse, social worker, pharmacist, or scientist who is involved in diabetes research, diabetes education, or diabetes clinical care. Applicant(s) must be employed by the University Health Network either on a full-time or part-time basis. Those who are working at a UHN site but are not paid employees of the UHN are not eligible to apply. The principal applicant must also be a registered member* of the Banting and Best Diabetes Centre at the time of application submission. (*Applicants who are new to the field of diabetes research, education or care and are not members of the BBDC can request free membership by contacting the Centre prior to submitting an application. For more information about BBDC Membership please view the Membership section of this website.) Research and clinical
fellows, residents, graduate and
undergraduate
students, research technicians, and clinical trial co-ordinators
are not eligible to apply. Preference will be given to those who do not
have access to other sources of funding, either directly or
through their own research or administrative units. NEW: In the case of applicants who are staff physicians or scientists, preference will be given to those who are within the first 3 years of their first faculty appointment. |

Award Terms: |
Funding to be used for:
1)
Travel to a diabetes meeting.
A maximum of $1,000 per applicant is available.
Funding will be provided for the
applicant to attend ONE national or international
diabetes meeting occurring in the year 2010.
Successful applicants will be reimbursed for travel
expenses upon presentation of original receipts only.
Photocopies or credit card statements alone will not be
accepted. Both the
airline ticket or E-ticket, and the boarding passes must be
presented if claiming airfare.
Proof of meeting attendance/registration will be
required to claim reimbursement.
All documentation must be submitted to the BBDC within
the time frame specified in the award notification letter,
otherwise the award will be withdrawn. Eligible Travel
Expenses: Conference
registration fees; return economy airfare or other means of
transportation; hotel accommodations; meals; taxi, bus or
train fares; and parking fees.
Ineligible Travel Expenses: Personal
travel insurance or traveler’s medical insurance; passport or
visa costs; and long-distance telephone calls.
2) To support a visiting lecturer in
diabetes or metabolic disorders. A maximum of $2,000
per lecturer is available.
Funding for travel expenses and honorarium will be
provided for lecturers visiting in the year 2010.

Application Procedure: |
Submit a completed application form to the
Banting and Best Diabetes Centre by the deadline date.
